Actually I'd like to correct you if I may- I know that in the IRC RPG's case, we do have a T-Bone. We were supposed to have a Razor, but the person who plays them never bothers to show up. (You would think that if you're going to go through all the work of joining, you'd want to play, but I guess not.) As for other characters from the TV show, we have people playing Madkat and Mac & Molly Metallikat. We have someone who plays Feral, but they haven't written a bio for them yet. Whenever we need Manx or Dark Kat, they're usually played by the same people, also, though they aren't actually claimed by them. As for "why not"? I guess it's pretty simple. It's more fun to play a character that you created on your own than it is to play one that isn't "yours." More people can identify with a character that they made than they can with one that is straight from a TV show. ~Strike (strike@sprintmail.com) www.whitestorm.com "I felt like I was in charge." --Dan Quayle _______________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________ Message: 12 Date: Wed, 4 Aug 1999 14:59:57 -0600 From: "Strike" Subject: Re: T-Kat speed >How fast do you think the TurboKat can actually go? Raksha, I think most of the reason is that we *aren't* the SK's. Most of us have personalities so vastly different from any existing character that even though we admire/like the characters, we can't *be* them. I, for one, adore Turmoil. (Well, as much as you can 'adore' a psycho-chick anyway. :D ) But she's exceedingly difficult to play "true", as in, just like the show portrayed her. I think (therefore I am) that most rpgs tend to stay away from the "real" characters because we don't want to hurt/ruin them. The "real" characters need to stay seperate because if they were in the rpg, they'd change. Razor would become a suave ladie's man, T-Bone would develope an irrational fear of jello (Do NOT ask. People in SKRPGs should know what I'm talking about.), Callie would get contacts, Viper would have a wife, Dark Kat would have a fondess for doing the macarena (Hey, he IS evil..)... Ahm.. anyway. That's my opinion. I'd like to hear others. ~Klawz klawz_hangar@hotmail.com _______________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________ Message: 16 Date: Wed, 4 Aug 1999 17:20:29 EDT From: RikkiFeral@aol.com Subject: Re: RPG stuff... We also have a Dark Kat, Ann Gora, Callie Briggs, and Felina Feral (tho she's married and so her last name now Cerviche). In addition, there are people in the RPG who play Dr. Viper, Hard Drive, and Commander Feral as side characters (therefore no profiles). Strike said: <> And Klawz said: <> I agree with both of them. I've played characters from the show (Molly Mange and Lt. Steele O.o;), and obviously also played my own characters. It's a lot of fun and a sort of challenge to take on an already existing charatcer, but that usually wears thin quickly. The longer you role-play, the more of yourself will show through in your character. It allows for more creativity when you're playing your own character. Just as an example, as much as I'm friends with the guy who plays Chance in the SK AOL RPG, he acts *nothing* like Chance on the show - by the end of Generation One (if you're clueless, read the RPG's history), our Chance had a bionic arm or something strange like that, and had gotten himself involved in a nasty and inappropriate little incident with yours truly which I shall spare you all of hearing. I think you get the picture. ~_~; ::grins:: And Raksha..back when you had AOL and you were interested in joining the RPG, you had your own character. I can't say more than what's been said on why everyone picks original characters instead of show characters. I agree with the others - show characters tend to get altered when they're played in RPGs. Granted, I personally don't like playing a character like myself (though I do it often enough) as much as I prefer to play a character who is my complete opposite. ::shrug:: It makes RPG life more interesting for me. Hrmm... well... the Speed of Heat (introduced in "when strikes mutilor") is just something they made up. It's probably just a code name for "can fly very high in the atmosphere due to a retractable, batmobile-like cockpit covering, and four super thrusters that have no business being stored where they are." So the Speed of Heat is actually a mode of the Turbokat- not a measure of how fast it can go. I could go into the physics of *how* heat can't have a "speed", mainly because nothing about heat involves distance, but just believe me when I say there's no such thing as the speed of heat. Well it could be the speed at which the surfaces of the TurboKat are sufficiently heated by aerodynamic drag that they start to glow a cheery red. But of course this would vary with altitude, since said aerodynamic heating is dependent on the air density. As is the speed of sound. Just a thought.... And, it's mentioned in the "Secret Files of the SWAT Kats" thing for the TurboKat. It's says something like "Top Speed: 4500 mph - Mach 5." Granted, I think I once figured it up and 4500 mph didn't equal what should be Mach 5 (it was during physics - they got me thinking on it and I had nothing better to do, right?) ::shrugs:: *Somewhere* there's a screen grab of that... Of the TurboKat's "file"... It doesn't say Mach 5 because the guy speaking during the file thingy did that, but it does have the "Speed: 4500 mph" written on it.... The aerodynamics aren't there. Unless of course the engines are exceptionally powerful, but in that case they'd be hungry too. Obviously Feral DID do a good job of keeping >thevillians at bay while the sks were still in grade school.< I'll have to agree with her. I mean, we never had any indication that MegaKat City was on the brink of destruction before the SWAT Kats came along. Of course, I think they're a big help (I hero worship - sue me), but the Enforcers were doing an, at *least*, competent job for quite a few years before them. And, I don't think Feral's a coward. Now, Mayor Manx - *there's* a coward. I never noticed Feral backing from a fight in the show... He confronted the Metallikats face to face, charged a giant mummy with nothing better than a handheld blaster and the assurance of a kat he doesn't even trust (Razor) that he could destroy it, and he went along to rescue Callie and Manx from Dark Kat and the other villains. I don't even think he really kisses up to Manx. Telling him point-blank, "You're a coward, Manx," in Giant Bacteria ain't kissing up. Granted, Feral doesn't have the world's most loveable personality - least not to see him most of the time. I'd hate to meet a guy like him - can we say intimidated? I'd hate to be locked in a room with him for thirty minutes even if he didn't scare me. But, he does have a soft side... The way he looked at Felina's bazooka when the Sergeant laid it in his arms and told him that was all they found (When Strikes Mutilor)? C'mon, he looked ready to cry. He has a heart... One has to dig to find it, but it exists. >Unless jake hit Pastmaster over the head with a ninja turtle lunchbox... at >least theyde be evenly sized....< LOLOL! Okay, I'm still chuckling over that one... Yes, I have now dissolved into giggles. Intelligent conversation from me has ended. That's just how I feel about Feral. Well, that is what was said in a fanfic, though- that's not what the TV show presents. We can't base our opinions on Feral off of another's opinion of him. (And Feral said that to *Steele*? If anyone had been called a coward, it should have *been* Steele!) Personally I agree with Wildfire and Kristen (and whoever else had this opinion.) I think that Feral is doing the best job he can... and if he is slipping lately, it's probably just because he's trying to hang on as long as he can so Steele won't get the job. I'm sure as commander of the Enforcers he has to put up with a lot of bureaucratic nonsense from Manx's office and such (not to mention he gets bashed all the time in the media because of all the supervillain attacks)... and he also has to try and save face, you'll notice that most of the times when he says bad stuff about the SKs, it's on the news. He can't exactly get on the news and say "yeah, those guys are better than us." He could also just sit behind a desk all day, but instead he chooses to go out and sneak into Dark Kat's lair, and go to the old abandoned tuna factory and fight the bad guys. However, an interesting point is brought up when we consider the original plot for "Cry Turmoil"-- originally, the writers had planned for Turmoil to seduce Feral... and while we know that T-Bone would never have gone "bad", it had been planned that Feral really WOULD be bad, and would only come back to the Enforcers when he saw that Turmoil would lose. Personally I think he would have done that because he'd probably be fed up with all the crap he has to put up with in the Enforcers, and he'd want to be on a winning side for once... but it makes you wonder what the writers had meant for Feral's basic motivations to be. He does have some sort of honor though, seen at the end of Metal Urgency (I think?)- when the Metallikats try to save themselves by turning in the SKs, Feral says he doesn't deal with scum- maybe he really doesn't want to know who the SKs are.... So, I don't think that Feral should be fired, or that he's a coward or that he's doing a bad job as Commander... but I do think that he's got a darker side (as opposed to his normal hardass mode) that we unfortunately didn't get to see in an actual episode. ~Strike (strike@sprintmail.com) www.whitestorm.com "I felt like I was in charge." --Dan Quayle _______________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________ Subject: [SWATKats_Canon] Digest Number 70 Date: 25 Aug 1999 09:30:20 -0000 From: SWATKats_Canon@onelist.com To: SWATKats_Canon@onelist.com --------------------------- ONElist Sponsor ---------------------------- ATTENTION ONElist MEMBERS: Get your ONElist news! I think Feral is a good guy (more or less) but Steele....well he's just what his name says if you spell it like steal. :) ie he wants to take Feral's job without having to lift a finger. Feral needed a good chewing up from him on "Destructive Nature" and "Pastmaster always strikes twice". That's all I'm going to say about him for now! Steel is not so good. He's worse than Feral. Her site is the official place for the Rogue Squadron RPG. It's on there. Just gotta x-plore a bit. BTW, anyone who has e-mailed me or has thought of e-mailing me, inquiring about the RPG or telling me the "join" page don't work, I know about the join page. Still in the process of creating it. Concerning "joining" us, well... we really aren't taking members RIGHT now, since we're working on how we're gonna have members join and when we're opening, not to mention we've been working out some OORPG details/differences... If it looks interesting to ya, just be patient, and you'll get the chance to join. I promise. :) For now, get your chars ready to go when we DO start. I done now! See ya!
