Looks like we survived the Y2K! Did any of you travel for New Year's day? In
my neighborhood in Delkenheim, I heard fireworks as loud as bullets popping
in your ears. Me and my folks drank champagne and talked with our German
neighbors. What you do when the time reached 12:00?

Well, David, for some of us, it's not 2000 yet. We've still got 4-5 hours
left. Anyway, I don't know what I'll be doing tonight. Talking to friends,
playing video games, watching movies, etc. Maybe watch the ball drop in
Times Square on TV. We probably won't have any Y2K problems. The other
parts of the world are in 2000 already and they're not having any problems.
So your guess is as good as mine. Happy New Year!

Considering Y2K isn't the new millennium, nothing. Not to mention it's only
8:10 for us on the Atlantic Coast. 2001 is the correct date for the new
millennium, by the way, NOT 2000. People are friendly with even numbers...

Hee hee hee, one could argue that it's later than that on some of the
Atlantic coast... just depends one WHICH country's Atlantic Coast you're
referring to. This Atlantic Coast is an hour later than the US Atlantic
Coast.
As for how I'm spending New Years...don't go in (or out, for that matter)
for standing outside in the cold...or in a crowded bar, so I'm home, hanging
with my online friends.
Oh! To make this slightly 'on topic', I got the Warner Bros. Trivial Pursuit
game for Christmas. Haven't had the chance to play yet, but I was flipping
through the questions and came across the following: "They've been plugged
as 'Two cats who have more firepower than a third world nation'" (or
something close to that...) Heh, knew the answer before checking it .
Erin - Happy New Year!!

No, computers have problems with the year 2032.
Besides Y2K is no problem in many countries. For example the german
language doesnīt have any Ys in the month and day names, not even in
numbers.

I disagree alot. When a number turns to zero from nine, a new row begins.
The millenium has started indeed and no, computer systems as I know is still
going fine. It's the silly last two digits of the year downloaded that
became the problem!

You can say, the older the computer the more Y2K it is. I do have an
1986 Siemens PC-D with DOS 2.something. It seems to be perfectly Y2K
since itīs stuck in 2052 for years.

Unfortunately, the calendar that we use started with year 1, not year 0.
(Not my fault that the people creating the calendar screwed up)

It's correct that 2001 is the true new millennium date. Only reason 2000 is
stated as so is because people are friendly with even numbers, and like the
change from 1999 to 2000. Do you count from 0-9 or from 1-10? 1901-2000,
2001-2100, and so on. Logically, 2001 is the correct date for the new
millennium. They will say that later on. Sales is another reason for 2000 as
the new milennium.

'K' is an abbreviation for 'thousand'. If a file on your computer is 200K,
that is two hundred thousand bytes. So, Y2K means Year 2000.

Zzzzzzzz.....
Not that I don't mind a few off-topic posts once in awhile (ie: what you did
for NY's)... but arguing which year is the millenium is silly and completely
off-topic. According to different people, the "Real" one was back in '86, or
'88, or '96, or this year, or next year, or three years from now.
Does anyone have any sort of SK topic for the list?
Heck, I'd even be happy to have the old, "Is Dark Kat Feral's
brother/clone/cousin/father?" argument. ;P

Actually, it's been said before... Though that Dark Kat was Feral's brother
was the only one I'd really heard.

awesome! I stayed there for like 4 days, then on new years there was a major
concert and tons of fireworks. oh.. and a tree caught on fire. thats always

I feel that Dark Kat is Feral's father who sent him off to the enforcers
with his brother, Theseus. Yes, I found it out wrote about it two months
ago. Thanks to Jennifer Munoz who helped me. If DK was Feral's clone, he'd
look exactly like Feral.

True. My dad has a computer 1980 something, and it has Windows 3.1 on it.
Ancient thing, it has the old disk drive..And well it works, my dad was
surprised..It wasn't really that much of a surprise for me, though.

Hmph..somehow I don't think Feral is either of those things..Now if you take
a look at my brother Alexander...Well Dark Kat's twin is what I say..They
have sooo much in common...I've lost track of those things they do have in
common..I even call him Dark Kat sometimes, or even Dark Creep, or Dark
Crud. That ticks him off..and makes me grin :) Oh well hows that sound?? Not
only I'm stuck with Dark Kat's twin, but I also have him for a relative...
Definitely not one of the best things in my life.!!!!!

Which issue of National Geographic, month and year, had a feature with a

Actually I thought that too b/c of all of the hatred that Dark Kat had

No, K in the computer world is an abbreviation for 1024. So Y2K means
2048.

It was from the year 1997, September. It was Katastrophe and the screen
displayed Callie's eyes watering when she thinks they're dead. Two boys are

Hey, remimber that never done project about a CD-Rom containing all
SWAT-Kats eppisodes.
However tomorrow Iīll try to compress the first eppisode. With my
current software that will take about 10 hours. However Iīm looking
forward to get better software. The format will be MPEG at the standard
size for NTSC.

Only electronic problem I had is my computer's mouse doesn't work. Of
course, that was last year. Nothing besides that. Cars still run, computers
still work, VCRs run, TVs operate, etc. I think my Beetle was already 'Y2K
Compliant'! :D

Yeah I though about that too, but what do they have in common except size??
They don;t look alike to me, Dark Kat has bigger ears. and his eyes are

YUp I had one with my computer, just found out today...
I made a new file in Microsoft and after saving it I went to look at mthe
file's stats. It said that I created the file on January 4th 1980. I wasn't
even born then. After I changed it to the proper date January 3rd 2000 I
checked the stats again. Now it said file created January 4th 1980. File
modified January 3rd 2000. That file is older than I am!!!!!
Other than that I didn't find anything wrong with electronics in my house..

Disagree all you like, but the new millennium starts in 2001.
Remember, there was no year 0. The first year of AD/CE was 1, not
zero. Therefore, 1-100, 101-200, and for us 1901-2000. If you look at
newspapers from a century ago, you'll read that they recorded the new
century (correctly) beginning in 1901 and 1900.
And I got a heads-up that Y2k was a no-show, when I successfully
completed a phone call to the Philippines in the early evening of 31
December. If the Philippines escaped the millennium bug, I knew the US would
too...

Give as much data as you want Ed, but the millenium is here already. I don't
like this arguement. The twentieth century started in 1900 and ended in
1999. A new line starts after 9. The millenium is here and it has started
already, ED.

This 0-9 crap started only with computers and digital readouts. As I
said, read the New York Times in December of 1900 and January of 1901,
available on microfilm in your library, and see for yourself when this
century started (Hint: 1 Jan 1901, not 1900).
Maybe more people were smarter then than they are now. It must be
true, because it's amazing how many idiots, and smart people who should know
better, foolishly think that the new millennium started two days ago.
Remember, for your argument to be correct, there had to have been a
Year 0. Of course there wasn't one.
I look forward to celebrating the REAL start of the new millennium,
on January 1, 2001! Until then, I'm dropping this.

Please ignore the last message of mine. I'm sorry I made a big deal of it. I
can probably see the next year as the new millenium.
Here's a new topic. When and where is set the show? Eighties, ninties?

My apologies for getting a bit too upset about when the millennium really
starts.
Because ultimately who cares? The world didn't end two days ago, nor will it
end 364 days from now.
And besides, it's just Earth time, not Kat time!
So, speculatively, where in relation to the equivalent of the Year 2000
would you say the Kat world is? State your assumptions, and back up your
points. You have one hour to complete your exam!
;-)
Cheers,
Ed
Tomorrow I'm off to Fort Knox again, flying in one of those tiny little
regional jets that are about as close to flying in something like the
TurboKat I'll ever get. Still, it's fun, especially in rough weather and
turbulence!

Inapplicable. It's not our Earth. The closest you'll come is a
conglomeration of times and places (not all of which exist in our
reality) and even then it won't be completely accurate.

Iīve just completed the the compression of the first eppisode "Night of
the Darkkat". I think at the current rate of compression I can get about
3 eppisodes on a CD-Rom. I think Iīll do a bit more research. Eventually
Iīll go up with the resolution to 384x288.

For those of you who have Strike's SWAT Kats Second Season Opener in AVI
format NOT RealPlayer format , look VERY VERY closely at frame # 248*. You
will see that it is a shot of Razor swinging on his helmet. For those of
you who don't have the AVI file, tape the season opener , and watch VERY
VERY closely between frame numbers #246 - #250.
The Screw up is that Razor has a blue ear instead of a carmel one.
I have proof on my site : follow this link:
http://blackrazor11.iwarp.com/blueear.jpg
* To do so , open the opener via Windows Media Player
(c:\windows\mplayer.exe)
Set up Media Player to view in frames (click 'Scale' then choose 'Frames')
And fast foward by moving the slider to frame # 248.

During the next few hours I can send you that image from work. I've been
successfully able to download it.

Sorry for the inconvinience ... it seems that I-Warp didn't
like people tapping in to the images without going to the main page. Anyway
.. I put a link to it on my page : http://blackrazor11.iwarp.com
Oh and BTW , The Window Manager I am using is not Gnome , it is the BeOS
(www.be.com) running a crappy Windows emulator running Media Player.
If you want the same effect on YOUR Windows 9x-based computer , goto
www.windowblinds.net and download 'WindowBlinds v1.01' and use the BeOS
skin. WindowBlinds is a cute little prog that changes all of the buttons ,
checkboxes , radio-buttons , titlebars , start menu , etc to look like
somthing else .. SK WindowBlinds Skin... it's an idea?
Well.. I'm happy to know that we have at least ONE Non-Windows SK fan
around....

Subject: Mostly related...
Normally I wouldn't post something like this on the ml, but I've had a lot
of people asking me lately.
Yes, I'm planning on updating my page. I know it's been almost 3 months. The
update has been finished on my own computer since Christmas.... but I'm
having problems getting it uploaded. Some of you may have noticed that my
page vanished for a few days right before New Year's... it's related to
that. Evidently, my web hosting people were setting up a third nameserver or
something (I don't pretend to understand how hosting servers work) and it
made their whole system shut down for a few days. Everything was offline for
a few days, and parts of their system are still having problems. They said
that FTP should have been up again, but mine doesn't work. I've tried
calling, but their help lines have been busy every day (even at times like
4am) since New Years. Their help email services were wiped out and have only
just gotten them back online... after being broken into by a hacker... THAT
was interesting to see when I went there looking for a phone number... so
I've sent them a request and hopefully they'll get my FTP access fixed so I
can update my site.
So anyway. I'm just kind of waiting now. (And not very patiently, either....
thank goodness I haven't sent them the check yet... no way I'm paying for
this!)

Oops. forgot to mention one thing. I haven't been able to get any of my
email from whitestorm@whitestorm.com, either (though 'bios' has been working
ok).. so anyone who sent any email to that address, you'll have to resend it
to this address in order for me to get it.
